I find it ironic that I am here revisiting “Common Sense” when almost weekly my wife reminds me that I don’t have any. The first order of discussion within these pages is to acknowledge the great work of Thomas Paine, “Common Sense”, penned in January 1776, which gave momentum to a movement, and led to the Declaration of Independence.

I am asking you, as Thomas Paine did over 200 years ago, to examine the violation of our individual sovereignty by our current government.

As capitalistic success and technological advances have dampened the effects of tyranny, I suspect the “sentiment contained in the following pages, are not yet sufficiently” alarming to motivate those who are oppressed to consider actions to right injustices that may seem bearable, at a minor cost of time and liberty.

A long habit of not thinking a minor digression WRONG, gives it a specific appearance of being right. Minor tyranny at first raises an outcry from those effected, but the tumult soon subsides and the tyranny becomes the norm, incrementally building upon itself.

Our founding fathers have given us the foundation for a free and open society. Thomas Jefferson gave us the Declaration of Independence, a document that proclaims all men’s rights and called a people to a fight against the tyranny of a King. We all know by heart the most famous passage that today we consider “Common Sense.”

“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their CREATOR, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

The founding father then crafted our constitution, that lays out the framework for our government, designed to protect the liberties of each individual. The first paragraph as listed below sets the tone for our government’s design.

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

It is hard to imagine that these documents could be manipulated; its meaning twisted, to allow those who see themselves as superior to impose their tyranny upon us. The words that were crafted to protect the rights and liberties of all of us have been turned against us while acting as a shield protecting the tyrants that torment us.

Reason would dictate that strict adhearance to the true intent of the constitution is required or the words contained therein can not protect the country from arbitrary laws of those in power. The attention of the people and the understanding of the country to issues of governance is required, as those words have no power in themselves without the backing and devotion from those who give these principles meaning. Alas the people have been lax in their obligations to their fellow countrymen to defend the priciples contained in those words. Time has allowed the principle to be blurred by tyrants and good doers who wish to advance their own standing at the erosion of individual sovereignty. As the people attend to their own business their goverment is slowly falling to the hands of those with self-interests at heart. Freedom is lost slowly over time.

“Time makes more converts than reason.” As the long and growing abuse of power is the Means of calling the right of it in question, and Elites of society have undertaken their own RIGHT to support the Legislature in what they call THIERS, and as the good people of this country are grievously oppressed by the combination, they have undoubted privilege to question the pretension of both, and equally to reject a government that is being used as a tool of tyrants against them.

The fight against those who would use the constitution as a tool to promote tyranny must not be a fight focused behind one man as this is a universal fight of all men who are oppressed. The reward of one man is the reward of all men who are of like mind.

This cause to set America straight is in great measure the cause of all mankind. The conditions and circumstances that have lead us to a point of being subjugated to the will of others at the expense of our own rights are not local but universal. The desire of some men to be in a position superior to others as their right, will only be controlled by the concerns of every man, to whom Nature has given the Power of feeling, to defend the natural rights that rightfully belong to every man.

In these words, you will find many thoughts and phrase reused and rewritten from the original document, “Common Sense” written in 1776. Many of the thoughts penned back then are still applicable today as man’s natural rights have not changed. However many have taken for granted the wisdom of our founding fathers, and the documents they have produced to protect our rights. It is time to revisit the doctrines for only through diligences and understanding can we fend off the efforts of those who through ignorance or malice wish to reign over us.
